The Doctor War

I am writing this blog on behalf of my beautiful daughter who has suffered severely for the last three years with chronic Atopic Dermatitis or Eczema whatever you wish to call it.  When our daughter was little she had chronic eczema from the time she was three months old and  was on lots of steroids.  She was puffy with moon face from the steroids and we went from doctor to doctor who had all these great promises that they could get her better no problem.  I tried every cream known to man even home remedy things that just did not work.  Her skin became very raw, bright red, itchy, so very dry and hot.  I had doctors tell me that she should not take a bath except once a week or wrap her up in saran wrap to help hold in moisture.  We also had doctors telling me she should not wear anything with wool.  Right before her 5th birthday I had put her in the tub which was very painful because of all the broken skin and it would burn so bad, but on that particular day she started having green infection oozing out of her little body.  I guess the water was pulling it out.  I immediately took her to the emergency room because I knew that this infection was a bad one.  I just remember bright green all over her.  In the ER her little arms were so raw the nurses did not even know where to try to stick her for a IV because there was no good place.  Our daughter had been so sick and so worn out from crying she finally just kind of passed out from exhaustion.  They transported her that night to another hospital in a city over that was a children's specialty hospital.  They treated her with IV's and steroids which did clear her up.  She went good for a while and then another hospital stay again for another week.  We were so afraid that she was not going to be able to start kindergarten that year so I was checking into having someone come to our home to start school.  But some kind of miracle took place and she got better and was able to start school right on time. 

So from the time she was in kindergarten till she graduated we never saw this problem again.  In fact we thought that it was over and we would never see it again.  A year after her graduation from highschool she left fine one morrning and then came back only to be broke out all over in little red dots on her entire body.  I took her to our local walk in clinic because I thought she had gotten into something and may have had blood poison.  The clinic ran blood test but did not see anything out of the ordinary so they gave her a prednisone pack and this began a three year journey to a place I would not wish on anyone.  I will continue tomorrow with more details.  Just remember you can and will get better!
